Vegans Hail Hemp Superfood

While vegan is now much more than a trending social media hashtag these days, it can still be a challenge for vegans to get enough protein in their diet. Supermarket shelves are changing fast to accommodate new diets but beans every other day may get a little well, boring. Enter hemp. It has a robust flavour (some say it takes a little getting used to) is has 25 % insoluble fibre and is loaded with protein, in fact it is a complete protein meaning it has all nine essential amino acids and a total of 20 amino acids in all.

Another reason to love hemp if for its Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio of 4:1 whereas chia seeds are closer to 3:1. So add hemp to your shakes, cook with the oil and try a delicious and satisfying hemp burger next time you stop at your hemp-loving health restaurant.
