South African Grow Clubs – Are They Legal?
Grow clubs have been in the news of late with more and more of them popping up in South Africa, and seemingly taking advantage of a loop hole in the law where recreational marijuana has been decriminalised for private use, but may not be sold or smoked publicly. The grow club charges a membership fee for which members are entitled to remote ownership of a certain number of plants that are grown privately for them.
They are then sent a small quantity of the product each month and no money changes hands in that exchange making this a legal way to ‘buy’ marijuana. As clearer legislation is yet to evolve around cannabis use and consumption, business is swift for these clubs – of course it could all just go up in smoke – but for now, its booming.
