CBD offers hope for psychosis sufferers

A study by the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King’s College, London has made some interesting findings about how marijuana-derived CBD can reduce psychosis by ‘resetting’ brain activity in three different areas of the brain. Forbes reports that the study’s lead author Dr. Sagnik Bhattacharyya said, “The results have started unravelling the brain mechanisms of a new drug that works in a completely different way to traditional anti-psychotics,”.

He pointed out that medications that were easy to tolerate with minimal side effects were needed, especially in the treatment of young people. As this study is still new (published in 2020), much work must be done to understand how CBD is having this effect but early news is promising.
