Breakthrough for Cosmetic Use of CBD

The European Union has added natural hemp derived CBD as an ingredient to the ‘Coslng database; a list that advises on how to use and prescribe ingredients in cosmetics. The move adds a great deal of clarity and ease of use for manufacturers. Previously only CBD derived from certain parts of the leaves and stems or synthetically made CBD was permitted. The use of naturally derived CBD sourced from hemp means it is less complex to include the ingredient in cosmetics.

The listing identifies CBD for its anti-sebum and antioxidant properties with nourishing and protecting qualities. The changes come off the back of a November 2020 Court of Justice of the European Union finding that CBD should not be classified as a narcotic, a victory which is set to have more beneficial impact for CBD use as the legislation catches up.
