So Close but So Far as Australia’s CBD Laws Cause Red Tape

On 1 February 2021, Australia legalised the use of CBD for sale without prescription through pharmacies but have classified it as a Schedule 3 medicinal substance meaning that manufacturers and retailers must complete the usual rigorous testing and scheduling most medicine is subject to before the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) can approve it. Unfortunately, CBD is still in the early phases of research with much time and money ahead before it can scientifically tick all these boxes.

The use of CBD is also complex and personal with the substance often affecting different people in different ways due to its unique interaction with the human cannabinoid system. In a case of so close, but so far – Australians may have to wait a little longer than most countries to enjoy all the benefits of CBD.
