It all Began with Charlotte Figi

Charlotte Figi passed away earlier this year after a bout of pneumonia, suspected to be Covid-related, breaking the hearts of many in the media and medical world who had grown close to her through the groundbreaking changes brought about by her story. Charlotte suffered from Dravet’s Syndrome a debilitating form of epilepsy. After begging doctors to try cannabis oil and being consistently turned down, Charlotte’s Mother, Paige, made her own and gave it to her daughter. Everyone was astonished at the results which took Charlotte from having repeated seizures to none or only very occasional seizures.

The high-cannabidiol, low-tetrahydrocannabinol Cannabis strain that her parents and doctors eventually convinced lawmakers to legalise was named Charlotte’s Web. This was the catalyst for authorities to change their mindset about what was previously seen as an illegal drug and opened the way for the massive healthcare revolution that is CBD today. Watch this CNN insight into her story and a moving tribute to Charlotte by Dr Sanjay Gupta, who met and worked with the team who documented little Charlotte’s story.
