CBD Breakthrough for Antibiotic Resistance
CBD, and in this case a synthetically generated CBD, was able to kill the bacterias that cause gonorrhoea, meningitis and legionnaires disease. This is the first breakthrough in 60 years for bacteria that are proving to be antibiotic resistant. CBD has been hailed as a possible solution for deadly hospital superbugs which are also antibiotic resistant, spurring new hopes that the plant-based ingredient could play a major role in overcoming a looming treatment-resistant health crisis.
Team leader at the University of Queensland’s Centre for Superbug Solutions, Professor Mark Blaskovich, said “We think that cannabidiol kills bacteria by bursting their outer cell membranes, but we don’t know yet exactly how it does that, and need to do further research.” It’s a promising start as cannabis’ potential comes under the spotlight as a major medical health player.
