CannabisHealth reports that one of the unintended consequences of Brexit is the sudden termination of the supply of medical cannabis that is being used to treat forty patients in the UK with, among other conditions, severe epilepsy. The medicines were being sourced from European manufacturers. British Health Minister, Matt Hancock has acknowledged the problem and appears to be working on a solution but Professor Mike Barnes, neurologist and founder of the Medical Cannabis Clinicians Society, warns that “one or two children could die” if they no longer have access to the medication.
Professor Barnes also pointed out that for epileptic children in particular consistency is key, it’s not as simple as switching products, as per the terms of the ending of the EU agreement, because strains of cannabis are subtly different.
