Although scientists were only able to isolate CBD in the 1960’s, research into the different cannabinoids in the marijuana plant began in the 1940’s – some decades after it was discovered that there were different cannabinoids in the plant. The later development of a key milestone in discovering the relationship between CBD and the endocannabinoid system boosted our understanding of how CBD works and is key to current advances in the development of cannabis is a medicinal plant.
The research that has emerged has been significantly boosted by interdisciplinary collaborations, especially those between chemists and pharmacologists. With increasing interest in the potential of CBD, findings are likely to be exponential in the next decade too.
