South Africa is Africa’s only CBD-friendly country

April 14, 20211 min read

Travellers to CBD-friendly South Africa should make sure they empty their pockets before crossing the border into the rest of Africa because SA is currently the only country on the continent to sell CBD legally. Neighbouring countries Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Swaziland allow CBD for medical use and Ghana is currently a bit of a grey area.

In Nigeria, no distinction is made between the use of marijuana and CBD and use of either could carry a penalty of up to 12 years in jail. Despite this, reports on the ground suggest that doctors have started prescribing and discussing cannabis remedies and it is likely that laws will begin to change over time.
