Although the trade of illegal cannabis seems at first glance to be problematic for legal cannabis companies, the fact that 40% of US trade is currently thought to be illegal bodes well for an industry worth $3 billion in legal trade in California alone. As regulators both open up and further define the legal blur around cannabis product, there will be more opportunities for formal trade to flourish.
This also takes care of another concern which is that of illegal cannabis products that are sub-standard and even toxic. A job creating industry that could also revolutionise the treatment of several health conditions? Surely that’s well worth investing in.
